MUDRAS
Hand Gestures with Symbolic Meanings

Mudra of Compassion Loving Kindness

Somehow when we say “Mudras” some people envision something mysterious and foreign. But actually “Mudras” are hand gestures that are visual aids that have symbolic meanings. Mudras/hand gestures are one of the oldest forms of human communication.

Mudras means “seal’ or (gesture) and have a symbolic meanings: Love, peace, health, generosity, Truth…. The symbolism is an individual decision; God, Love, Health, Healing.

God (as it pertains to any religion) may be Jesus Christ, Yahweh, Allah, Buddha…. Even for an agnostic or atheist it may mean Love, Truth, the Universe…. The meaning is up to the individual.

Mudras are found in Christianity, Buddhism, American Indians, sign language, military, driving hand signals, guiding aircraft, in sports, football & baseball and many others.

Many Christians participate in the "Sign of the Cross" blessing.

There are many, many Christians who practice Buddhism,
and they become better and better Christians all the time.

I think that most of us are familiar with the "Peace Sign."

Today mudras are more common than we realize! Have you ever “Waved” to someone on Facebook or given them the “Thumbs Up” sign?

All sports have their own specific hand signals/mudras

Football has many hand signals/mudras that are given by the coaches, players and referees.

Baseball has its own peculiar hand signals/mudras.

Cars, motorcycles and even boats have their own driving-traffic signals/mudras.

Aircraft have their very own unique hand signals.

Even the U.S. Army has a field manual on hand and arm signals.

I am the Light of my Soul

It is NEVER my intent to make anyone uncomfortable and every gong bath is customized to your wants and needs!  But I don’t understand how some people may be threatened by Mudras:

  • Phenomenal Emptiness
  • Self-Emptiness (free from self-grasping, greed, avarice, envy….
  •  Other Emptiness
  • Compassion
  • Loving Kindness
  • Equanimity
  • Rejoicing in the Happiness of Others
  • Wisdom of Equality
  • Wheel of Merit (the accumulation of merit, good deeds/actions)
  • Wheel of Wisdom (the accumulation of wisdom; the Wings of Love are Wisdom and Compassion.
  • Perfection of Effort
  • Concentration
  • Discernment
  • Generosity
  • Aspiration
  • Ethical Conduct
  • Non-Dual Wisdom (It’s not about Us against Them)
  • Patience
  • Skillfulness
  • Liberating Power

I can’t think of one Mudra that would be against anyone’s faith and beliefs. I know from my Christian faith that these mudras help to make me a better, kinder, loving person. This is why I like to share these Mudras.
